Happy New Year!
The new year is here! And my new job! It has been VERY busy these last 5 days, and only now have I had the chance to read a little email and post a quick entry. I do have photos to share, but not enough Internet bandwidth to upload them. So check back for updates on my living space, the convoy ride up here, and great shots of me with the well-traveled Pack 145 banner!

This is me with the sharp MRAP crew that drove me to Bucca, then Basra: The soldiers of A-56 BSTB, from Irving, Texas "Mexican (gunner), Cowboy (driver), and Outsider (commander)." I have the unique honor of being the first officer to ride with them!

On the Ground in Basrah
I arrived at FOB Basrah at 2am this morning! Captain Murray has shown me around, and I've met some of the key players. As Liaison Officer, it'll be my job to coordinate support from our 287th headquarters, and report back what they need here.
The British have publicly said they're leaving this Spring, so big changes are afoot.
Enroute here, we stopped over at Camp Bucca, which is where Charles was from July 2005-May2006. It was as nice as Tullil, plus they had a decent stage for USO events. We didn't stay long, though, and pushed on in to Basrah. I'll have to post photos and more details another evening, though. You can imagine we're all pretty tired!
Happy New Year, and best wishes for a speedy reunion in 2009.

What's up with CHU?
CHU: Container, Housing Unit. Pronounced like "chew." It's 1/3 of a mobile home, is what it is. Here's a closer look.

Records Off the Wall
So I got me an office, called Records off the Wall. Just leave a message, maybe I'll call...
Two wall videos from Iraq. First off, the TreadWall. A very cool item in the Camp Buehring (Kuwait) gym.

Next up is the Tallil Hard Rock Cafe (my name for it):
What you'll see is Rock Band projected on the T-Walls surrounding our living area. These huge T-walls provide protection in the event of mortars or explosions. But they also make a great projection screen, as these soldiers found out. They built a stage, turned off the parking-lot style light, and let them rock out!
